The article titled Uncommon Smooth Crassatella (Giant) Cockle found at Brighton SA featured photos taken by both David Muirhead and Peter Muirhead. As you might suspect, the two are related to each other.

Peter was David’s cousin and he died recently after a long illness. David and I both attended Peter’s memorial service at the Royal SA Yacht Squadron. I didn’t know much about Peter other than than the occasional updates from David, and the above-mentioned article posted in 2014.

Peter’s details within the article had first been published in our October 2011 newsletter (No.386). As reported in both articles, Peter’s photo of a giant cockle was added to our Photo Index of SA Marine Life as slide No. 5135.

The above-mentioned details were enough for me to want to attend the memorial service with David. At the service, I learned much more about Peter and his family. According to the funeral card given out at the service, Peter was a talented journalist who loved the ocean, especially fishing and sailing.

Most of Peter’s family of all ages seem to share the same love of the sea. Our condolences go to Peter’s family and friends.
