Garry Keywood, an amateur Eyre Peninsula historian now living at Crows Nest in Queensland recently emailed us some information about the 1980s ‘fight for the Mount Dutton Bay jetty’: –
“Just for your interest – if the Mount Dutton Bay Jetty Action Group had been formed today, but in the USA, then the current Administration would have labelled this group of concerned Citizens a “terrorist” group & called in the National Guard, the CIA & the FBI; in order to bring these respectable people down.”
The main content of Garry’s email message was some photo montages depicting Mount Dutton Bay jetty, and some newspaper cuttings about the fight to save them jetty when it was closed by the Department of Marine & Harbors: –

According to “Place Names of South Australia” by R. Praite & J.C. Tolley, Mount Dutton was “Named after Francis Staker Dutton, a Commissioner of Crown Lands 1858-1860 and Agent General 1865-1877”
“South Australia – What’s in a Name” by Rodney Cockburn, however, suggests otherwise, instead naming explorer Charles Christan Dutton.

Good articles, Steve. (And FWIW I’ve snorkelled once or twice, and done one short shore entry dive at Dutton Bay, more than a decade ago with Rob Kirk (UEC), and I didn’t even know there was ever a jetty there. But you know how hopeless I am with geography and maritime history).
