State Government to protect seadragons & sea horses

The Rann Government has moved to deliver greater protection for sea horses, pipefish and weedy seadragons in South Australian waters by declaring them protected species, like the leafy seadragon. Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister, Rory McEwen said today the decision reflected a commitment by the Premier at a Community Cabinet meeting last year to protect the weedy seadragon. “It also... Weedy Seadragon protection interests SA Premier Mike Rann

On Tuesday 6th of September, Margaret and I attended an afternoon tea at the Walkerville Bowls Club to meet the Premier and some of his Ministers for an informal community discussion. I went with two items for discussion, the Rapid Bay jetty situation and the lack of protection for the Weedy Seadragon. I was told that the Jetty had been raised... Read more

Tumby Bay Jetty Dive

Jenni and I had a few days R and R at Port Lincoln this week so I took my gear, hoping to get a few dives. The shore/jetty dive prospects and viz at Whyalla, Cowell, Port Neill and Arno Bay varied from poor to “possibly just o.k. but let’s try the next town.” Finally at Tumby Bay, the last town... Second Valley MLSSA Club Dive, 20th April, 1997

The destination for the monthly MLSSA club dive was Second Valley. Unfortunately, only Jonathon and I could go for a dive on this particular day (20th April), but it turned out to be a rewarding dive in very nice weather. Ron and his family were diving behind the reef at Brown’s Beach on February 23rd. There they counted 18 White’s Seahorses floating on broken ‘sea branches’. Locals at Third Beach, Port Victoria, Yorke Peninsula have told Ron... Read more

Port Moorowie Jetty

In May 1980, Peter Gilbert took me out in his rubber duck for a dive at Broken Bottom. When we arrived at the site I was embarrassed to find that I had left all of my three face masks in my car at the Glenelg ramp. We had to return to the shore to pick one of them up. Eight... Read more
