The City of Onkaparinga announced on June 20 “The manufacture of the new jetty staircase (at Port Noarlunga jetty) is now completed and it’s in storage ready for installation. The installation timing is ultimately determined by the weather because the contractors require consecutive days of perfect conditions to install the free-standing piles accurately the first time.

“Piling is the procedure of setting deep foundations into the ground to create a robust and stable base for construction to commence. It’s a difficult process in the marine environment and involves mobilising a barge with specialist equipment.

“The opportunity may narrow further during the winter months. However, we are monitoring the forecast and will start work as soon as the right window of opportunity arises to ensure the new stairs are in place before summer.”

We thanks the Council for keeping us informed on this important topic.
